I have some clients that have made it a tradition to order their birthday and Kids' birthday gifts from me. After having a glass, mug, key-chain.... pretty much all of my products, they challenge me to create something new every year.
This young lady is a lover of trinkets and pink and since she already owns multiple trinkets from me i decided to design a trinket box for her. But how do i make it a Kraftzykat exclusive? by doing a completely new craft of course! One of the dangers or a creative mind is the exhaustive to do list. I consulted my craft "to-do" list (read that as Pinterest) and got to work.
To start of this pretty heart styrofoam box.... I just saw it and imagined cake. a couple hours of youtube later and a quick trip to the hardware store and I was ready to tackle a faux cake.
My first batch of frosting..... runny, questionable and a definite fail. A comfort Coke later I was ready to try again and got a more appropriate consistency.
I colored my frosting the palest pink with some acrylic paint and got to frosting with a spatula. I used the spatula and carefully smoothed my mix on then textured it for that authentic look.
I let my creation sit for 12 hours before handling and piped the extra details on.
