Krafted With Love!!!

I’ve always loved creating unique, personalized items, and this resin shaker keychain was the perfect project to combine my passion for 3D design and crafting. I wanted to make something colorful, fun, and functional—a little piece of art I could carry with me every day not to mention carrying my favorite snack around…

In this post, I’ll take you through the entire process, from designing the Mold to adding the final touches. Whether you’re a seasoned crafter or just starting out, I hope this inspires you to try making your own custom keychain!

Here’s everything I used to create my resin shaker keychain:

I am an Amazon Associate and  will receive a small commission if you decide to shop.

  • 3D Printer and Filament: I used Anycubic Neo to design and print the mold.
  • Silicone Mold-Making Kit: Mr. Resin 2 part mold maker worked great for creating a flexible, reusable mold.
  • Two-Part Epoxy Resin: I recommend Let’s Resin for its clarity and ease of use.
  • Shrink Plastic: I used a shrink plastic from amazon for the inserts, which shrinks evenly and holds color well. (link below)
  • Resin Dye and Glitter: pigments added a pop of color and sparkle.
  • Keychain Hardware: Jump rings and lobster clasps.
  • Other Tools: Mixing cups, stir sticks, gloves, a heat gun, and scissors.

I started by designing the mold in TinkerCAD. I wanted a rectangular shape with a raised border to contain the resin. After finalizing the design, I 3D printed it. The print took about 1.5 hours, and I made sure to sand the edges for a smooth finish.

Once the 3D-printed Mold was ready, I mixed silicone according to the instructions and poured it into the Mold. After 24, the silicone cured, and I had a flexible, reusable Mold perfect for resin pouring.

I mixed  resin in a 1:1 ratio and stirred slowly to avoid bubbles. I added a few drops of pigment and a pinch of glitter for some sparkle. After 24 hours the Resin was cured and I could remove from the Molds.

For the shaker inserts, I designed the chips on shrink plastic using my design software and my printer. After cutting them out with scissors, I shrunk them using a heat gun. It’s amazing how much they shrink—about 30% of their original size!

The final part of the project involved creating the labels and sealing everything so that it was seamless.  Not only did I create a shaker snack, they loo quite delectable.

I’m so happy with how these keychain turned out! It’s colorful, unique, and totally customizable. Next time, I might experiment with different shapes or add more intricate designs to the shrink plastic inserts. I’d love to hear if you try this project—share your creations with me in the comments!
